Design Tips That Make Accent Walls Look Professional
- Keep the other walls simple. The accent wall is the star. Paint the remaining walls in a neutral that complements the wallpaper — white, cream, light gray, or pull a subtle tone from the wallpaper pattern.
- Go floor to ceiling. Wallpaper the entire wall, not just a section. Partial wallpaper application almost always looks unfinished.
- Match your trim. If your wallpaper has a white background, white trim seamlessly blends in. If it's dark, consider painting your trim to match for a more immersive look.
- Don't compete with the wall. Minimize art and shelving on your accent wall. The wallpaper IS the art. A few simple pieces are fine; a full gallery wall over busy wallpaper is chaos.
- Light it well. Accent walls look best with intentional lighting — a picture light, sconces, or even just making sure your overhead lighting hits the wall evenly. Good light shows off the pattern; bad light creates shadows that flatten it.
